If you are travelling to South Sulawesi and want to visit Tana Toraja by land then bus is an option for you, beside renting a car with driver. There are many bus companies that go to Rantepao, Tana Toraja. They are:

  • Metro Permai
  • Bintang Prima
  • Bintang Timur
  • Primadona
  • Litha & Co
  • Alam Indah
Busses to Rantepao, Tana Toraja leave twice a day. First at 9 am and arrive around 7 pm in Rantepao. Second at 9 pm and arrive around 5 am in Rantepao. The bus ticket price starts from 150,000 rupiah. You can go straight to Daya Bus Terminal from airport or your hotel to take the bus. If you need any help with booking a bus ticket, please let us know.

If your arrival is not match with busses schedule, then you have two options. First, you can do a day trip in Makassar and surrounding while waiting for the night busses or morning busses. We offer some day tours if you need one. Second, you can charter a car with driver for a drop off in Toraja. Check our services here.

Tanjung Bira in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi is well known for it's powdery white sand, blue turquoise water, and beautiful underwater sea life, but beside that you can see the construction of Phinisi boat in Tana Beru which has done by local crafters from generation to generation. In 2017 UNESCO recognized Phinisi art of boatbuilding in South Sulawesi as the world's intangible cultural heritage.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Makassar - Boat Making Village - Tanjung Bira

Pick up at Sultan Hasanuddin airport/ hotel in Makassar then proceed to Tanjung Bira. Driving to Tanjung Bira takes around 5-6 hours with two stops. First for lunch in Bantaeng area and then to see the boat making village around Bontobahari district. Check in at hotel then free program.

Day 2: Liukang Island 

After breakfast at the hotel, we will go to Liukang island for snorkeling, swimming, or sunbathing. After that we will go to Apparalang cliff. We will have lunch at a local restaurant on Liukang Loe island. After lunch we will head back to the hotel then free program.


Bara Beach 

Day 3: Tanjung Bira - Bissappu waterfall - Makassar

Check out at 9 am then continue to Bissappu waterfall in Bantaeng. Located not far from the main road, the height of this waterfall is around 50 meters. After that we will have lunch in local restaurant then continue to the airport or your hotel in Makassar.
