Tana Toraja in South Sulawesi is well known for their unique culture and traditions. Beside that Toraja is also popular with beautiful sceneries and beautiful traditonal houses called Tongkonan.
If you are coming to Toraja by bus or by plane, then this Toraja tour package is perfect for you. In one day, you will visit beautiful places in North Toraja. 


What to expect

After breakfast we will visit Bolu market. Slaves, firearms, and coffee were one main commodities in the past. Now it is famous as livestock market. As we know that even majority of Toraja's population are christian, but they still practice the Aluk To Dolo way, giving animals an extremely important role in Toraja culture.

Lokomata Grave


Then we will continue to Lokomata with a stop in Tinimbayo rice terrace view. Lokomata is a huge stone with over sixty mausoleums have been carved. Every 3 year, especially in August, people do Ma'nene ritual. Ma'nene ritual is cleaning and changing the clothes of the dead bodies. Then we will have lunch in Batutumonga. Batutumonga is a village located 1200 meters from the sea level. Here you can see rice terraces, mountains, and Rantepao from above.

After lunch we will do soft trekking from Batutumonga to Lempo through rice fields, bamboo forest,  and some villages. The trekking will take around 2 hours. 

After arrive in Lempo. We will drive down and stop in a rante. Rante is a field where local people held the funeral ceremony. Here you can see megalithic stones from the previous funeral ceremony. One megalithic stone means there was a funeral ceremony that happened there. 

After that we will head to Pallawa. Pallawa is a traditional village 12 km from Rantepao. Here you can see traditional houses called Tongkonan. Tongkonan houses always face north because Torajan people believe that Puang Matua or God Almighty lives in the north part of the world. Back to hotel.

What to expect

After breakfast we will visit Lemo. Lemo is a stone grave on a huge stone. There are around 70 holes that made the stone looks like a pomelo or in  local language "Lemo". Beside the graves, you can also see wooden effigies, which are the representatives of the dead.

Then we will visit baby graves inside a living tree in Kote. The babies that were buried here have not yet teethed. Then we will have lunch in Panorama restaurant.

After lunch we continue to visit Tampang Allo. Tampang Allo is a natural cave grave where you can see stack of skulls, wooden coffins on wooden frames, an ancient wooden effigies or tau-tau.

Then we will go to Karuaya. Karuaya is a traditional village in North Sangalla. Around  7 km from Makale, Tana Toraja. Here you can see traditional houses called Tongkonan. Tongkonan houses always face north because Torajan people believe that Puang Matua or God Almighty lives in the north part of the world. The uniqueness of this village is because you can seven skulls on the balcony of one Tongkonan house.

When finish the tour with a visit to Kete Kesu. Kete Kesu is also a traditional village like Karuaya, but here you can see hanging coffins and Patane or modern grave in many sizes and shapes. There are 6 Tongkonan houses and 12 Alang in Kete Kesu and they are estimated around 300 years old. Back to hotel.

Rammang-Rammang is a very popular destination for a day tour in Makassar. The view is breathtaking. It's a combination of limestone hills, river, village, and rice fields at one place. Around this area there are also other interesting places to visit like stone garden, and a prehistoric cave found in 1950s.


What to expect

Your tour will begin with a pick up from Sultan Hasanuddin airport or your hotel at 8 am. Then we will head to Rammang-Rammang dock  1 to take the boat to Rammang-Rammang village.

The boat ride is around 20 minutes to Rammang-Rammang village. It's a village with 17 houses surrounded by limestone hills. Enjoy the fresh air, sound of the birds, and walking along rice fields and fish ponds.

Then we will do light trekking to Padang Ammarrung hill where you can enjoy the view of Rammang-Rammang village from the top of the hill with a cup of coffee or  a coconut served by a local old couple.

After that we will go by boat to dock 2 then continue trekking to Kunang-kunang cave. They named it Kunang-kunang or fireflies in English, because the stalactites and stalagmites are glittering.

Then we will have lunch in Eco Lodge Cafe. They serve western and local food for a reasonable price. You can have lunch while enjoying the beautiful view of Pute river and lime stone hills.

After that we will go to Stone Garden. Here we can see hundred of karsts with different sizes and unique shapes. This Stone Garden is the third biggest in the world, after the first one in Tsingy and the second one in Shilin.

Finish the tour with a visit to Leang-Leang prehistoric cave. Please notice that Leang-Leang prehistoric cave only opens until 5 pm, so if we start the tour late we can visit it first.

In Leang-leang you will see 27 hand stencils and a deer hog painting in Pettakere Cave. This Hand stencils and painting was made around 5000 years ago.

Beside the Pettakere cave we can also go to information center to see the fossil replica of the first human that they found in Leang Jarie. This fossil is 2750 years old.
And you can also see a neon artwork created by Craig A. Kraft that inspired by prehistoric painting in Jing cave.

Are you looking for a thing to do in Makassar while you are waiting for your bus to Toraja or you just want to escape the city, then our day tour can be a perfect option for you. There are many things to do for a day tour near Makassar. One of them is visiting Malino. It's located around 1500 meters above the sea level so it has some nice waterfalls, tea plantations, or you can just enjoy the fresh air of the mountains.


What to expect

Pick up at your hotel at 8 am. At around 10.30 am we will arrive in Takapala waterfall. Then we will do trekking from the parking area to Takapala waterfall.

After that we will have lunch in Pattiroang cafe. Pattiroang cafe is an aesthetic cafe made from bamboo and wood. Here you can have lunch with mountains and rice terraces view.  





Next, we will visit Malino Highlands to enjoy the view of tea plantation. Then we will do trekking down the hill along the tea plantation to mini zoo, then to flower garden.
