Tana Toraja in the north part of South Sulawesi is a popular place amongst the travellers that visiting South Sulawesi. Formerly Tana Toraja could be reached after 9-10 hours by car/ bus, but now you can fly from Makassar to Toraja because there is a flight from Makassar (UPG) to Toraja (TRT).
Toraja new airport is located in Mangkendek, Tana Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi. It was built to replace Pongtiku airport. There is only one company that flies to Toraja Airport. Wings Air flies from Makassar to Toraja and Toraja to Makassar every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The flight from Makassar to Toraja takes 55 minutes.
Toraja Airport is around 30 km from Rantepao, the capital of North Toraja. There is no public transport in Toraja Airport, make sure you book a pick up before you fly to Toraja Airport.

Tentena is located in Central Sulawesi, between Ampana and Rantepao, North Toraja. Tentena situated at the northern end of Poso Lake and it has some tourist attractions that worth to visit. That's why many tourists do a stop over in Tentena before they continue the trip to Rantepao.

South Sulawesi Tour 9 Days 8 Nights Itinerary:
Day 1: Rammang-rammang Tour (L)
Pick up at Sultan Hasanuddin airport/ hotel in Makassar then proceed to Leang-leang prehistoric park. In Leang-leang you will see 27 hand stencils and a deer hog painting in Pettakere Cave. This hand stencils and painting was made around 5000 years ago.

Beside the Pettakere cave we can also go to information center to see the fossil replica of the first human that they found in Leang Jarie. This fossil is 2750 years old.
Here you can also see photos of rock art paintings from caves around Maros and Pangkep karst, including the 44.500 year old painting in Leang Tedongnge.

After Leang-leang, we will continue to our accomodation in Rammang-rammang. After check-in at Eco Lodge, then we have lunch in Eco Lodge. After that we'll walk to Kunang-kunang cave, then we go to Taman Batu Kampung Laku then to Berua village. The boat ride to Berua village is around 20 minutes. Berua village is a village with 17 houses surrounded by limestone hills. Enjoy the fresh air, sound of the birds, and walking along rice fields and fish ponds. Back to accomodation then free program.

Day 2: Rammang-rammang - Toraja
After breakfast then we will go to Toraja. Driving to Toraja takes around 9-10 hours with some stops. First stop will be for lunch in D'Carlos Cafe Pare-pare or other places around. At D'Carlos Cafe you can order local Dishes that is not easy to find anywhere else. Next stop is in Buntu Kabobong or Erotic Mountain, Enrekang for a cup of coffee or tea then continue to Toraja. Arrive in the hotel then free program.

Day 3: Toraja Full Day Tour (B,L)
After breakfast We will go to the south part of Toraja, tour starts at 9 am. First we will visit Lemo which is an ancient grave with tau-tau on the cliff. Then we continue to Buntu Burake. The view from this hill is so beautiful. You can see mountains and Makale town, the capital of Tana Toraja. Beside that you can see Jesus Statue here.

- This program is flexible and without visiting a funeral ceremony. If you want to see a funeral ceremony please let us know in advance so we can find an information about schedule of funeral ceremonies that happen to be held when you'll be here.

Toraja was a name given by Buginese people to people that live in Toraja. It comes from two words, tau means people and riaja means uphills. Even now most of Torajanese are christian but they still practice the old belief system or "aluk to dolo".
Most Torajanese live in Tana Toraja and North Toraja.Makale is the capital of Tana Toraja and Rantepao is the capital of North Toraja. Most tourists stay in Rantepao because it's closer to many tourist destinations.
